As part of measures to mitigate the impact of the lockdown on citizens, especially to ameliorate the suffering arising from the restriction of movement, a non governmental organization has distributed food items to some indigent residents in some communities in Lagos.  The food items, donated under the auspices of the Initiative for Social Impact and Sustainable development (ISISD), include bags of semolina, wheat flour, rolls of tomato paste and packs of seasoning.
” We know that this is a trying period for everyone in the country especially Lagos, Ogun and FCT where the federal government has declared lockdown.  We know that aged people, widows are among the vulnerable that need help at this period and we also know the effect it’s already having on youths especially the unemployed”, ISISD Coordinator, Funmi Falobi declared, noting that the initiative was taken to put smile on the faces of the indigents and also mitigate the effect of the COVID-19 lockdown on the identified recipients.
“Through the help of the Community Development Area (CDA) leaders, we were able to identify and reach out to those that need assistance at Saala/Arejogbo community in Ishaga area of Lagos”, she said.
“There are so many indigents that are affected by the Corona Virus lockdown directives and what we are doing is our widows mite. We want to do more as many have been identified but we have limited resources. So we urge  other spirited Nigerians to support us so that more indigents would be touched,” she added.
The recipients, who were presented with the food stuff package in their homes appreciated the organisation for the kind gesture and making them celebrate Easter in joy.
Commending the organization, a Community Leader, Olori Cecilia Olatokun (JP), who assisted in the identification and the distribution of the food stuff to some residents in Saala/Arejogbo community said the initiative would go a long way to help the people.
“We thank the organisation for coming to our community. We pray God will protect, bless and guide all of you. We really appreciate you all”, she said.
