University of Lagos Mass Communication Alumni Association (UMCAA) has elected new executives to steer the affairs of the association.
The elections which took place on September 12 was conducted through electronic voting system for 10 vacant positions. However, only the office of the Welfare Secretary had more than one candidates as contestants for some of the other positions who had earlier showed interest or accepted nominations to contest stepped down or declined, giving way for unopposed positions.
The new executive members are: Adewale Williams, President; Kehinde Oyesomi, Vice President; John Sonayon, Secretary General; Bukola Munonye, Assistant Secretary General; and Funmi Falobi, Welfare Secretary.
Others include: Nkem Mojume, Secretary – Social/Special Project; Dayo Ajiteru, Financial Secretary; Adeyinka Adeosun, Public Relations Officer; and Oluwatayo Alofun, Digital Media Secretary.
Umpire’s comment
Announcing the results, Chairman, Electoral Committee, Major General Rtd, Bola Koleoso revealed that there were only 10 sets of nominations and a total of 26 people were nominated for the posts.
“During the candidate verification exercise, some nominees declined the offer to serve for various reasons. In the end, 14 names made it to the ballot paper. Two of these eventually withdrew in the course of the hotly contested campaign. One person had failed to engage at all, while another candidate withdrew from the contest. Still the association has recorded some gains. The enthusiasm must be built upon for the future,” he said.
While commending the electoral committee for the yeoman’s job in delivering a free and fair electoral process, he stated that, ” the Electoral Committee came up with an electronic voting system that should make INEC Green with envy. It’s a standard that beats whatever had been in use before now. This template also sets a standard for future Electoral Committee to build on.”

Immediately the results were announced, the winners used the association”s platforms to appreciate members for their support and also pledge their allegiance to moving the association forward to greater heights.
